15. Daemon Monitor
The daemon monitor will allow you to start the daemon, and monitor its status throughout the
day. All POS daemons may be started from this option.
Note:
It is extremely unlikely that the Daemon will require starting manually. Timed Operations
normally manages the Daemon.
The parts daemon is responsible for updating various data files with sales and purchase
information. This program will be run as a background task, which will allow the terminal that it
is running on to be released for normal use.
The daemon, when running, will update stock records with all sales information, i.e. Total stock
quantity, Location stock quantity, Date last moved, Date last sold and Demand history. The
daemon will also update stock records with all purchase information, i.e. Total stock quantity,
Location stock quantity, Last bought, Date last purchased, Average and Latest cost. The
purchase transaction file is also updated when goods are received into stock.
Finally the parts daemon is responsible for updating stock with any discrepancies arising at
stock check.
All of the above movements in stock are recorded in transaction log files and may be
interrogated at any time for stock audit purposes.
When starting the daemon from the Daemon monitor, the system will display the daemons
available to you. The system will allow you to select the required daemon on selection of the
START button. The status of the daemon will change from 'Not started' to 'Running'. You may
keep the daemon monitor displayed on the screen during the day if you wish, however most
users wish to re-use the terminal for normal operation. If this is the case then key EXIT. This
will return the terminal back to the Point-of-Sale menu. From this point you use the terminal for
any other operation. If the option to start the daemon is taken whilst the daemon is running, the
message "Unable to start selected daemon" will be displayed.
