Introduction to
Creating Options
11. Introduction
Option types or groups are user definable and fall into two main categories, Recoverable and Non Recoverable
options. The Recoverable options are those options which are usually sold to a customer and will have a cost
price and a selling price. The Non Recoverable options are not sold to a customer and so they have a cost price
but they do not have a selling price.
The Recoverable options are usually divided into the following categories:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Factory fitted options
Dealer fitted options
Warranties
Colours
Trims
Insurances
Bonuses
The Non Recoverable options are not usually split down although bonuses can be set up as a recoverable and/or
a non recoverable option depending on the nature of the specific bonus.
The categories of Recoverable and Non Recoverable options can be set up and amended in Franchise Data /
System Maintenance / Option Types.
Specific options can be set up in each of these categories.
The Factory options, Colours and Trims information can be created and maintained by franchise data information
suppliers such as David Henley Systems or CAP Data. Alternatively, individual manufacturers may supply the
information in the form of an Excel spreadsheet which can be uploaded into the Franchise Data module. The
spreadsheet will create any new factory options and keep the cost and selling price of them up to date.
Where the information is not supplied by an external source it is important to plan the set up of the options to
minimise the amount of administration effort required to keep the options and prices updated in the future.
